Angels pitcher Chase Silseth is Friday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Silseth struck out four over six scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 2-0 win over the Athletics.
This was Silseth’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time he earned Player of the Game honors and it was also his Major League debut
Silseth earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and now ranks 119th among all players, 39th among American League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day—Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes struck out seven over seven innings, allowing one run, five hits and no walks, in the 2-1 win over the Marlins. Burnes did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was tied when he exited.
Burnes earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, 11th among NL pitchers.
Burnes and Silseth both had Box-Toppers game scores of +7.0 Friday, but Silseth won Player of the Day honors over Burnes because he earned the win in his game while Burnes picked up a no-decision.
American League Batter of the Day—Hunter Dozier of the Royals doubled and went 5-for-5, scoring four times and driving in one run, in the 14-10 win over the Rockies.
National League Batter of the Day—Ha-Seong Kim of the Padres hit a three-run homer and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 11-6 win over the Braves.
Kim earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, second among NL batters. While Kim has the same 4.0 Box-Toppers point total as NL batter leader C.J. Cron of the Rockies, Cron ranks ahead because he had more 2021 Box-Toppers points—6.5 vs. 2.0.
Notable—Aaron Judge of the Yankees has the most 2021 Box-Toppers points among Friday’s 15 Player of the Game winners.
Judge (HR 2-3 3R BI in the 10-4 win over the White Sox) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 4.5 for the season, 15th among all players and second among AL batters, behind Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (8.0). It should be noted that Ohtani has earned 4.0 of his 2022 Box-Toppers points as a pitcher and 4.0 as a designated hitter. So Judge currently has the most Box-Toppers points of any AL player who serves only as a batter.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
