Braves pitcher Charlie Morton is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Saturday, Taylor Ward of the Angels rises to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning American League Player of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Morton struck out nine over six innings, allowing one run, two hits and one walk, in the 6-5 win over the Padres. Morton did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Padres took the lead after he exited.

Morton earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, 21st among all players and 10th among National League pitchers.

Taylor Ward of the Angels is Saturday’s Box-Toppers AL Player of the Day.

American League Player of the Day—Taylor Ward of the Angels hit a grand slam and doubled in the 9-1 win over the Athletics. Ward went 3-for-3, scoring twice and driving in five runs.

Ward earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 4.9 for the season, rising to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings, second place among AL batters, behind overall leader and teammate Shohei Ohtani (8.0).

Ward and Ohtani are now the only batters among Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10. With Ohtani earning half of his 2022 Box-Toppers points as a pitcher, Ward is the only player who serves exclusively as a batter on the overall top 10 list.

This is Ward’s third Player of the Game honor this season. He was AL Player of the Day April 25 earning 1.7 points and was AL Batter of the Day April 27 earning 1.5 points.

National League Batter of the Day—Sam Hilliard of the Rockies hit a three-run homer and went 1-for-2, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 10-4 win over the Royals.
