Giants pitcher Alex Wood is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Sunday, Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara rises to fourth in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. He also rises to first place among National League pitchers.
Plus, Royals pitcher Zack Greinke rises back to fifth place on Box-Toppers’ “all-time” career points list, a spot he lost when he was passed by Astros pitcher Justin Verlander less than two weeks ago.
Player of the Day—Wood struck out eight over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 12-0 win over the Padres.
Wood earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, 102nd among all players and 37th among NL pitchers.
American League Player of the Day—Astros pitcher Jake Odorizzi struck out seven over seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk, in the 6-1 win over the Athletics.

American League Batter of the Day—Carlos Santana of the Mariners hit two home runs and went 2-for-3, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 6-5 win over the Blue Jays.
National League Batter of the Day—Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers homered, doubled and went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 11-9 win over the Cubs.
Freeman earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 6.0 for the season, fifth among NL batters.
Rankings—Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara rises from seventh to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.
Alcantara (7IP 6H 0R BB 4K ND in the 2-0, 10-inning win over the Mets) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.7 for the season. He also rises to first among NL pitchers, passing previous leader Joe Musgrove of the Padres (12.4).
