Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal is Thursday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to 10th place in season player rankings.

Skubal earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.7 for the season, rising to 10th place in season player rankings, sixth among American League pitchers.
Skubal becomes the 12th player this season to reach 10.0 Box-Toppers points. It is his first season with 10.0 or more points. In 2021, the only other season he’s earned points, Skubal had 8.7 Box-Toppers points with the Tigers, 27th among AL pitchers.
National League Player of the Day—Dodgers pitcher Mitch White struck out one over five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 9-6 win over the Giants. White did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Giants tied the game after he exited.
White earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 for the season, 70th among NL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day—Yordan Alvarez of the Astros homered, doubled and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 7-5 win over the Yankees.
Alvarez earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 7.7 for the season, 28th among all players and third among AL batters, behind Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (17.0) and Jose Ramirez of the Guardians (9.7).
National League Batter of the Day—There is no NL Batter of the Day for Thursday because no NL batter earned Player of the Game honors. Thursday’s limited schedule after the All-Star break included only eight teams playing six games, involving only three NL teams.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
