Giants pitcher Carlos Rodon is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to seventh in season player rankings.
Also Sunday, White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease maintains his third place spot in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. Plus, Braves pitcher Max Fried rises to sixth place.
Player of the Day—Rodon struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, in the 4-0 win over the Cubs.
Rodon earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 12.7 for the season, seventh among all players and third among National League pitchers, behind Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins (14.4) and Max Fried of the Braves (13.0). (Fried also earned Player of the Game honors Sunday).
American League Player of the Day—Astros pitcher Jake Odorizzi struck out eight over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the 3-2, 10-inning win over the Mariners. Odorizzi did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Mariners tied the game after he exited.
Odorizzi earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 6.4 for the season, 58th among all players and 25th among American League pitchers.
National League Batter of the Day—James Outman of the Dodgers homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 7-3 win over the Rockies.
This was Outman’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. It was also his Major League debut.
American League Batter of the Day—Austin Hedges of the Guardians went 1-for-2, scoring once and driving in two runs, in the 5-3 win over the Rays.
Cease—White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease maintains his third place spot in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.
Cease (6IP 4H R BB 7K W in the 4-1 win over the Athletics) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 15.7 for the season. He also ranks third among AL pitchers behind Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (17.0) and Justin Verlander of the Astros (17.0).
Fried—Braves pitcher Max Fried rises from seventh to sixth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.
Fried (7IP 4H 0R 2BB 5K ND in the 1-0 win over the Diamondbacks) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 13.0 for the season. He ranks second among NL pitchers behind Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins (14.4).
Notable—Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola becomes the 18th player this season to reach 10.0 Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.
Nola (6IP 6H R BB 8K W in the 8-2 win over the Pirates) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.0 for the season, 17th among all players and ninth among NL pitchers.
This is the fourth season Nola has earned 10.0 or more Box-Toppers points. His best season was 2018 with the Phillies when he had 21.1 Box-Toppers points, fifth overall and second among NL pitchers.
