Rankings—Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff rises to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.
Woodruff (5IP 5H 2R 2BB 8K ND in the 5-4, 11-inning win over the Dodgers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.4 for the season, sixth among NL pitchers.
With his rise into 10th place, he displaces the only batter from the top 10 list. Pete Alonso of the Mets (12.2 points) falls to 11th, still leading NL batters. Alonso recent stint on the top 10 list began Aug. 1. Previously, he was among the top 10 from May 19 to May 25, rejoining May 27, taking the overall lead in first place from June 4 to June 8, and stayed on the top 10 list through June 28.
The last batter to be among the top 10 players in a season is Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers, who had 16.9 points in 2013, eighth overall. In the decade from 2000 to 2009, batters finished among Box-Toppers’ top 10 overall players 23 times. But Cabrera is the only batter to finish in the top 10 since 2010.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
