(Post revised Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. to correct Player of the Game in Detroit-Texas game. Tigers pitcher Tyler Alexander was Player of the Game rather than Andy Ibanez, as previously credited. Ibanez had also been credited as American League Batter of the Day, but since he did not earn Player of the Game, we also revised the post to reflect J.P. Crawford of the Mariners, Player of the Game in the Seattle-Washington game, as AL Batter of the Day.)
Angels pitcher Reid Detmers is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Monday, Braves pitcher Spencer Strider rises to fifth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning National League Player of the Day honors.
Player of the Day
Detmers struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing one run, two hits and two walks, in the 2-1 win over the White Sox. Detmers did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was tied when he exited.
Detmers earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, 84th among all players and 31st among American League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day
Braves pitcher Spencer Strider struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing one run, three hits and two walks, in the 4-1 win over the Twins.
Strider earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 9.7 for the season, rising to fifth in season player rankings, second among NL pitchers, behind Zac Gallen of the Diamondbacks (9.7). Though Strider has the same Box-Toppers point total as two other NL pitchers (Gallen and Braxton Garrett of the Marlins), he ranks second among them because he had the second-most 2022 Box-Toppers points—Gallen had 18.7 points in 2022, Strider had 13.4 and Garrett had 5.7.

About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
