Cards' Adam Wainwright, with a one-hit shutout, tops players for Tuesday, May 20, rises to 2nd in Box-Toppers player rankings

Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright, Tuesday’s Player of the Day, rises to second place among all players in Box-Toppers points this season and takes the lead among National League pitchers.

Wainwright pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout, striking out nine—allowing just the one baserunner in the fourth inning—in the 5-0 win over the Diamondbacks.

Wainwright earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 9.0 for the season. He moves from fifth to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings (see the updated top 10 list on the home page). He passes previous NL pitching leader, Johnny Cueto of the Reds (7.7). He trails only Troy Tulowitzki of the Rockies (9.1) in Box-Toppers points this season.

Chris Davis of the Orioles is American League Player of the Day. Davis hit three homers, went 4-for-5 and drove in five runs in the 9-2 win over the Pirates.

Denard Span of the Nationals is NL Batter of the Day. Span went 5-for-5, scored twice and drove in two runs in the 9-4 win over the Reds.

Notable: Braves pitcher Julio Teheran rises to seventh place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday. Teheran (CG 0R 8K W in the 5-0 win over the Brewers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being Player of the Game, giving him 6.7 for the season.
