Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler is Thursday’s Player of the Day. Wheeler pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out eight, in the 1-0 win over the Marlins.

Rays pitcher Chris Archer is American League Player of the Day. Archer pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out eight, in the 5-0 win over the Astros.

Pitchers earned Player of the Game honors in all 12 games played Thursday. No batters earned National League or American League Batter of the Day honors Thursday because no batters earned Player of the Game honors.

Notable: Athletics pitcher Scott Kazmir rises to eighth place in season Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday (see the updated top 10 player list on the home page). Kazmir (7IP 8K W in the 4-2 win over the Red Sox) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 9.7 for the season. He ranks third among AL pitchers.

Wheeler receives 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day. Archer receives 1.7 for AL Player of the Day.
