Also, there are new leaders in Box-Toppers points among batters in both the National League and American League.
Kershaw has 20.7 Box-Toppers points and takes the overall and NL pitching lead from Jacob deGrom of the Mets (19.4 points). Kershaw took the overall lead from deGrom on Sept. 2, his first lead of the season. Kershaw led all players in Box-Toppers points in 2011, 2013 and 2014 and has led NL pitchers for the past four seasons.
National League batting leader—Carlos Gonzalez of the Rockies takes the lead from Yoenis Cespedes of the Mets. Gonzalez has 11.5 Box-Toppers points and ranks 22nd among all players.
American League batting leader—Edwin Encarnacion of the Blue Jays took over the lead from Mike Trout of the Angels. Encarnacion has 10.4 Box-Toppers points, passing Trout’s 10.0 points. Encarnacion ranks 27th among all players.
American League pitching leader—David Price maintained his lead with 18.1 Box-Toppers points. He ranks fourth among all players.
As of Sept. 3, 685 different players had earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors this season. There are 335 players with more than 2.0 Box-Toppers points.
About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
