Kershaw, who has not earned Box-Toppers points since June 20, has 20.0 Box-Toppers points on the season, ahead of second-place player, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer (18.7). This week, Scherzer had his first chance to pass Kershaw and although he pitched well, the Nationals lost the game and Scherzer did not earn Box-Toppers points.
Kershaw, who has been on the disabled list with lower back issues since late June, isn’t expected to return until at least late August. He’s led players in Box-Toppers points since May 7.
Meanwhile, the leaders of all four Box-Toppers categories remain the same as last week:
American League pitchers—Corey Kluber of the Indians leads with 16.2 Box-Toppers points, extending his lead over second-place AL pitcher Cole Hamels of the Rangers (14.1). Kluber ranks fourth among all players.

National League batters—Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals leads with 8.5 Box-Toppers points. He ranks 34th among all players.

So far this season, 628 different players have earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors. There are 303 players who have more than 2.0 Box-Toppers points. There are 97 players who have made their Box-Toppers debut so far this season, the first time in their career they earned Player of the Game honors.
About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
