Also Tuesday, Rays pitcher Blake Snell rises to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. Plus, David Peralta of the Diamondbacks rises to lead National League batters in 2018 Box-Toppers points after earning NL Batter of the Day honors.

Player of the Day—Anderson struck out six over seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk, in the 6-0 win over the Rangers.

Anderson earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, 54th among American League pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Braves pitcher Kevin Gausman pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out five, in the 6-1 win over the Pirates.

National League Batter of the Day—David Peralta of the Diamondbacks homered, doubled and went 3-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 5-4 win over the Angels.

Peralta earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 8.5 for the season, rising to first place among NL batters, passing previous leader, teammate Paul Goldschmidt (7.5), who only took the lead Friday, Aug. 17. Peralta ranks 41st among all players in 2018 Box-Toppers points.

American League Batter of the Day—Billy McKinney of the Blue Jays homered and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 8-2 win over the Orioles.

This was McKinney’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. McKinney made his Major League debut March 30 and was playing in his sixth career game.

Rankings—Rays pitcher Blake Snell rises from sixth to fourth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

Snell (6IP 4H R BB 11K W in the 4-1 win over the Royals) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 17.1 for the season. He ranks second among AL pitchers, 2.0 points behind leader Chris Sale.

Debut—Four players made their Box-Toppers debuts Tuesday with their first career Player of the Game honors. In addition to McKinney, mentioned previously, who earned AL Batter of the Day honors, they are:

  • Astros pitcher Framber Valdez (4.1IP 2H R 0ER BB 4K W in the 3-2 win over the Mariners), who was making his Major League debut.

  • Jeff McNeil of the Mets (2B 4-4 2R BI in the 6-3 win over the Giants), who made his Major League debut July 24 and was playing in his 27th career game.

  • Andrew Stevenson of the Nationals (HR 1-1 R 2BI in the 10-4 win over the Phillies), who made his Major League debut July 13, 2017, and was playing in his 63rd career game.

Scoring—Anderson earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Gausman earns 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day.
