Rockies’ Gomber tops players for Thursday, June 3; White Sox’ Lynn rises to 8th in player rankings

Rockies pitcher Austin Gomber is Thursday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Thursday, White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn rises to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Gomber struck out six over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, in the 11-6 win over the Rangers.

Gomber earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.0 for the season, 32nd among all players and 18th among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Rays pitcher Ryan Yarbrough pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing two runs, six hits and no walks, in the 9-2 win over the Yankees.

Yarbrough earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 23rd among all players and 10th among AL pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day—Brandon Crawford of the Giants hit a three-run home run and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 7-2 win over the Cubs.

American League Batter of the Day—Jake Fraley of the Mariners hit a three-run homer and went 1-for-2, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 6-2 win over the Angels.

This was Fraley’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Fraley made his Major League debut Aug. 21, 2019, and was playing in his 28th career game.

Rankings—White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn rises to eighth place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday.

Lynn (6IP 4H R 2BB 6K W in the 4-1 win over the Tigers) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 7.7 for the season. He ranks third among AL pitchers, behind Tyler Glasnow of the Rays (10.7) and Gerrit Cole of the Yankees (10.7). He ranks ahead of Athletics pitcher Sean Manaea, who also has 7.7 Box-Toppers points, because Lynn has more 2020 Box-Toppers points—9.1 vs. 2.0.

Debut—In addition to Fraley, Braves pitcher Tucker Davidson also made his Box-Toppers debut Thursday with his first career Player of the Game honor.

Davidson (5.2IP H 0R 5BB 5K ND in the 5-1 win over the Nationals) made his Major League debut Sept. 26, 2020, and was playing in his third career game.
