Athletics pitcher Sean Manaea is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to eight place in season player rankings.
Manaea pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking two, in the 6-0 win over the Mariners.
Manaea earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.7 for the season, eighth among all players and third among American League pitchers, behind Tyler Glasnow of the Rays (10.7) and Gerrit Cole of the Yankees (10.7).
National League Player of the Day—Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers hit a grand slam and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in six runs, in the 14-3 win over the Cardinals. Both of his hits were in the first inning.
American League Batter of the Day—Randal Grichuk of the Blue Jays hit two home runs and went 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 6-5 win over the Marlins. Grichuk was the only AL batter to earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors Wednesday.
National League Batter of the Day—There is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Wednesday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Cody Bellinger.
Debut—Orioles pitcher Tyler Wells made his Box-Toppers debut with his first career Player of the Game honor.
Wells (3IP H 0R 0BB 2K W in the 6-3 win over the Twins) made his Major League debut April 4 and was playing in his 14th career game.
