Meanwhile, the New York Yankees regain a razor-thin lead among American League teams and the Baltimore Orioles are the week’s hottest team, thanks to a mid-week acquisition.
Dodgers players have accumulated 110.9 Box-Toppers points, picking up 5.2 in the past week. They lead National League teams for the eighth straight week, ahead of the Atlanta Braves (second overall with 105.6 points, picking up 5.0 in the past week). The Yankees regain the lead among AL teams, after the Houston Astros led for the past two weeks. But the Yankees lead is razor-thin: Both the Yankees and Astros have 102.0 Box-Toppers points in 2022 and the Yankees hold the tiebreaker advantage because they earned more points in the past week—4.0 vs. 3.0. The Yankees rise from fifth to fourth place among all teams, behind the Dodgers (110.9), Braves (105.6) and New York Mets (104.5). The Astros fall from fourth to fifth place overall.
The Yankees have the second-best winning percentage (.603) among AL teams, behind the Astros (.641).
The Yankees are led by pitcher Gerrit Cole (13.4 Box-Toppers points, 12th among all players, fifth among AL pitchers). The Yankees top batter is Aaron Judge (9.2 Box-Toppers points, third among AL batters). There are 26 different Yankees players who have earned Player of the Game honors so far in 2022.
The Baltimore Orioles are the week’s hottest team, picking up 11.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week, most of any team. The bulk of that gain came from signing first baseman Jesus Aguilar this week, who earned 7.0 Box-Toppers points with the Marlins before being released in the past week. The Orioles also picked up 4.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week in their four wins. The Orioles now have 79.9 Box-Toppers points for the season, rising from 17th place overall last week to 15th place this week.
Conversely, the team that released Aguilar, the Miami Marlins, had a net loss of 6.0 points this week, falling to 58.2 Box-Toppers points on the season and dropping four spots from 21st to 25th place, the biggest decline among all teams.
The Arizona Diamondbacks had the biggest rise in team rankings, rising three spots from 23rd to 20th place with 69.4 points, picking up 7.0 points in the past week.
The Cincinnati Reds remain in 30th and last place for the sixth straight week with 42.7 Box-Toppers points, picking up 2.0 points in the past week.
About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
