Padres pitcher Yu Darvish is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Saturday, Braves pitcher Spencer Strider rises to ninth in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.
Player of the Day—Darvish struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 6-0 win over the Cubs.
Darvish earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 88th among all players and 28th among National League pitchers.
Darvish now also has 127.0 career Box-Toppers points, 45th among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. Darvish now trails 44th-ranked player Roy Oswalt (127.2). With his 2.0 points Saturday, Darvish passes three players on the “all-time” list—Gary Sheffield (124.1), Red Sox pitcher Corey Kluber (125.1) and Mariano Rivera (126.4). Darvish is now 12th among active players in career points, seventh among active NL pitchers.
American League Player of the Day—Marcus Semien of the Rangers hit a three-run homer, two doubles and went 4-for-6, scoring four times and driving in three runs, in the 16-6 win over the Mariners.
Semien earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.7 for the season, fifth among AL batters.
National League Batter of the Day—Luis Arraez of the Marlins hit three doubles and went 5-for-5, scoring once and driving in five runs, in the 12-1 win over the Athletics.
American League Batter of the Day—There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Saturday because the overall AL Player of the Day is batter Marcus Semien.

Rankings—Braves pitcher Spencer Strider rises to ninth in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.
Strider (6IP 3H 2R 4BB 7K W in the 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks, earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 7.0 for the season. He ranks third among NL pitchers, behind Zac Gallen of the Diamondbacks (7.7) and Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers (7.1).
Debut—Four players made their Box-Toppers debut, each with their first career Player of the Game honor:
Pirates pitcher Angel Perdomo (2.1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K ND in the 4-3 win over the Cardinals) made his Major League debut Aug. 18, 2020, and was playing in his 57th career game.
Blake Perkins of the Brewers (HR 2-4 2R 5BI in the 10-8 win over the Reds) made his Major League debut April 19 and was playing in his 11th career game.
