Guardians pitcher Logan Allen is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Allen struck out eight over five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk, in the 10-1 win over the Pirates.

Allen earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 73rd among all players and 32nd among American League pitchers.

National League Player of the Day

Wilmer Flores of the Giants hit two homers, including a three-run shot, and a sacrifice fly, in the 11-10 win over the Reds. Flores went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in five runs.

Flores earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 4.2 for the season, 18th among NL batters.

National League Player of the Day is Wilmer Flores of the Giants.

American League Batter of the Day

Dairon Blanco of the Royals tripled, hit two doubles and went 4-for-4, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 11-10 win over the Tigers.

This was Blanco’s Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. Blanco made his Major League debut May 20, 2022, and was playing in his 27th career game.

American League Batter of the Day is Dairon Blanco of the Royals.

National League Batter of the Day

There is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Tuesday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Wilmer Flores.

Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Tuesday’s win over the Rays.

Notable

Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi has the most 2023 Box-Toppers points among Tuesday’s Player of the Game winners.

Eovaldi (6IP 2H 0R 3BB 2K W in the 5-3 win over the Rays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 9.7 for the season, 11th among all players and fifth among AL pitchers.

Debut

Athletics pitcher Luis Medina is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Tuesday’s win over the Red Sox.

In addition to Blanco, two other players also made their Box-Toppers debut Tuesday, each with their first career Player of the Game honor:

  • Athletics pitcher Luis Medina (5.2IP 3H 0R BB 6K W in the 3-0 win over the Red Sox) made his Major League debut April 26 and was playing in his 13th career game.

  • Cardinals pitcher JoJo Romero (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K W in the 5-2, 10-inning win over the Marlins) made his Major League debut Aug. 21, 2020, and was playing in his 52nd career game.

Cardinals pitcher JoJo Romero is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Tuesday’s win over the Marlins.

Also notable

Giants pitcher Logan Webb is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Game in his team’s win over the Reds, even though he pitched Monday.

Webb (7IP 4H 2R 0BB 7K ND in the 4-2, 10-inning win over the Reds) started the game Monday, but it was suspended by rain and completed Tuesday. He did not return to the game when it resumed.

Webb had a +6.0 Box-Toppers game score. If the game had completed Monday, that would have been high enough for him to earn NL Player of the Day honors and earn 1.7 Box-Toppers points. But since the game completed Tuesday and is included in that day’s results, Webb’s +6.0 game score is behind the +7.0 game score by teammate Wilmer Flores, who earned NL Player of the Day in the other game played by the Giants Tuesday. So instead, Webb earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 7.0 for the season, 16th among NL pitchers.

Giants pitcher Logan Webb is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in Tuesday’s win over the Reds. Even though he pitched Monday, the game concluded Tuesday and is included in that day’s Box-Toppers results.

One more notable thing

Of the 16 games completed Tuesday, there were eight games in which at least one team scored 10 runs or more.

NEW: Inbox notification of each post!

In six of those eight games, batters won Player of the Game honors, the only six games in which batters won Player of the Game honors Tuesday. In two of those games, pitchers still won Player of the Game honors despite batters’ prodigious outputs, mainly by keeping opponents from scoring. In the 10-1 win over the Pirates, Guardians pitcher Logan Allen held Pittsburgh scoreless for five innings. And in the 17-3 win over the Nationals, Cubs reliever Michael Fulmer held Washington scoreless for 1 1/3 innings in the fifth and sixth innings, when the game was still tied 1-1, before the Cubs scored 14 runs over the seventh and eighth innings.

Scoring

  • Allen earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.

  • Flores earns 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day.

  • Blanco earns 1.5 points for being AL Batter of the Day.

  • All of Tuesday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
