Twins pitcher Sonny Gray is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Sunday, Marlins pitcher Jesus Luzardo rises to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning National League Player of the Day honors.

Gray struck out six over seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and no walks, in the 4-0 win over the White Sox.
Gray earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.4 for the season, 35th among all players and 17th among American League pitchers.
Gray becomes the 43rd player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his fifth season with 10 or more points. He also did it:

National League Player of the Day
Marlins pitcher Jesus Luzardo struck out eight over six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks, in the 16-2 win over the Braves.
Luzardo earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 17.8 for the season, rising from sixth to third in season player rankings, behind Braves pitcher Spencer Strider (20.1 points) and Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani (19.4). Luzardo ranks second among NL pitchers behind Strider.
Luzardo had a +8.0 Box-Toppers game score Sunday, same as overall Player of the Day Sonny Gray. But Gray beat Luzardo out for the day’s top honor on a tiebreaker because he had more innings pitched—seven vs. six.
American League Player of the Day
Jake Rogers of the Tigers hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, in the 5-3 win over the Angels. Rogers went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in four runs.
National League Batter of the Day
Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals homered, doubled and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 6-5 win over the Phillies.
Goldschmidt earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 8.2 for the season, sixth among NL batters.
Notable
Astros pitcher Framber Valdez becomes the 44th player to reach 10 Box-Toppers points in 2023 after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.
Valdez (7IP 5H R 0ER BB 5K W in the 7-1 win over the Royals) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.0 for 2023, 40th among all players and 20th among AL pitchers.
This is Valdez’s second season and second straight season with 10 or more Box-Toppers points. He also did it in 2022 with the Astros when he had 16.0 points, fifth among AL pitchers.
Debut
Dodgers pitcher Gavin Stone made his Box-Toppers debut Sunday with his first career Player of the Game honor.
Stone (3.1IP H 0R 2BB 5K Sv in the 6-1 win over the Mariners) made his Major League debut May 3 and was playing in his seventh career game.
