Orioles pitcher Corbin Burnes is Thursday’s Opening Day Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Burnes struck out 11 over six innings, allowing one run, one hit and no walks, in the 11-3 win over the Angels.
Burnes earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day. His 2.0 points for the season is now first among all players, passing previous leader Jake Cronenworth of the Padres, who was Player of the Day March 21 in the season kickoff Seoul Series in South Korea. While both Burnes and Cronenworth have 2.0 Box-Toppers points, Burnes ranks higher because he has more 2023 points—11.7 vs. 1.0.
Burnes’ 11.7 Box-Toppers points in 2023 with the Brewers was 13th among National League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. of the Diamondbacks homered and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in five runs, in the 16-1 win over the Rockies.

Biggio earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2023, 105th among AL batters.

About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
