Padres pitcher Dylan Cease is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to third place in season player rankings.
Also Monday, Phillies pitcher Ranger Suarez rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.
Player of the Day
Cease struck out eight over seven innings, allowing one run, one hit and no walks, in the 3-1 win over the Rockies.
Cease earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.7 for the season, third among all players, behind Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta and Phillies pitcher Ranger Suarez, both with 5.0 points each. Cease also ranks third among National League pitchers.
This was Cease’s third Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor of 2024. Previously, he was NL Player of the Day April 10 (earning 1.7 points) and Player of the Game April 16 (earning 1.0 point).
American League Player of the Day
Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal struck out nine over six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, in the 7-1 win over the Rays.
Skubal earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, rising to 11th place overall and fifth place among AL pitchers.
Skubal had a +12.0 Box-Toppers game score Monday, same as Cease. But Cease edged Skubal for overall Player of the Day because he had more innings pitched—seven vs. six.
National League Batter of the Day
Nolan Gorman of the Cardinals hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks. Gorman went 1-for-1, scoring once and driving in two runs.
American League Batter of the Day
Daulton Varsho of the Blue Jays homered and went 1-for-3, scoring once and driving in two runs, in the 5-3 win over the Royals.
