About Box-Toppers’ team abbreviations
Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta remains atop Box-Toppers season player rankings for the second straight week.
Meanwhile, Juan Soto of the Yankees rises to lead American League batters in Box-Toppers rankings. Two other category leaders from last week still hold their lead: Logan Gilbert of the Mariners leads AL pitchers and Marcell Ozuna of the Braves leads National League batters.
Peralta leads
Peralta has 5.0 Box-Toppers points to lead all players, picking up 1.0 point in the past week. He leads all players ahead of Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert (5.0) and leads NL pitchers ahead of second-place Ranger Suarez of the Phillies (5.0). While Peralta, Gilbert and Suarez all have 5.0 points, Peralta ranks highest among the three because he has the most 2023 points (17.7), followed by Gilbert (13.4) and Suarez (3.7).
Peralta has earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors four times this season, earning 1.0 point on March 29, April 5 and April 19 and 2.0 points as overall Player of the Day on April 12.
American League batters
Juan Soto of the Yankees rises to lead the category with 3.5 Box-Toppers points, passing last week’s leader, Andres Gimenez of the Guardians, who falls to second with 3.0 points.
Soto ranks 21st among all players.

Marcell Ozuna of the Braves maintains his lead with 3.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up no points in the past week.
Ozuna leads NL batters ahead of second-place Tyrone Taylor of the Mets (3.0 points). Though both Ozuna and Taylor have 3.0 points on the season, Ozuna ranks ahead because he has more 2023 points—7.5 vs. 5.0.
Ozuna ranks 26th overall.

Pitchers earned Player of the Game honors in 61 of the 97 games this week (62.3 percent) while batters won in 36 games (37.1 percent). While pitchers still dominated, batters made slight gains on the season, increasing their share of Player of the Game honors won overall from 32.0 percent last week to 33.3 percent this week (127 times in 381 total games).
Batters have won 155.9 of the total 455.3 Box-Toppers points earned this season, increasing their point share from 33.2 percent last week to 34.2 percent this week. (Pitchers have 299.4 points or 65.8 percent.) The all-time low share for batters in a single season is 38.1 percent in 2022. (Batters had 40.7 percent in 2023.) While batters have struggled to reach parity with pitchers in recent seasons, it wasn’t always this way: From 1995 to 2009, batters generally won half or more of all Box-Toppers points each season. But their share of points dropped precipitously after 2009.
About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
