BTP: Box-Toppers points

Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka has regained the lead among American League pitchers, with 8.7 Box-Toppers points. He is in third place overall and passes last week’s AL pitching leader, Max Scherzer of the Tigers (7.7 Box-Toppers points).

Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers has taken the lead among AL batters with 6.5 Box-Toppers points. He passes Chris Colabello of the Twins (5.2 Box-Toppers points), who had led AL batters for the first eight weeks of the season. After a hot start, Colabello went into a slump and was sent to the Twins AAA minor league affiliate. He drops to third place among AL batters.

Cabrera is currently in 12th place among all players in Box-Toppers points. He led AL batters in 2013 with 16.9 Box-Toppers points.

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
