Rays pitcher Drew Smyly is Monday’s Player of the Day, while Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez rises to fifth place in Box-Toppers player rankings.
Smyly pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings and struck out nine in the 7-0 win over the Rangers.
Hernandez rose from eighth to fifth place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Monday. (See the updated top 10 player list on the home page.) Hernandez (7IP R 8K W in the 11-1 win over the Blue Jays) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 15.8 for the season. He ranks second among American League pitchers, behind only Max Scherzer of the Tigers (18.1 Box-Toppers points).
Travis Snider of the Pirates is National League Player of the Day. Snider hit two home runs and doubled, going 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in four runs, in the 11-6 win over the Tigers.
Nelson Cruz of the Orioles is AL Batter of the Day. Cruz homered and went 2-for-2, driving in three runs, in the 11-3 win over the Yankees.
Smyly receives 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day. Snider receives 1.7 for NL Player of the Day. Cruz receives 1.5 for being AL Batter of the Day.
