Rays pitcher Drew Smyly is American League Player of the Day. Smyly pitched a complete game shutout, allowing two hits, in the 8-0 win over the Blue Jays.
Marcell Ozuna of the Marlins is National League Batter of the Day. Ozuna hit a grand slam and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five total runs, in the 13-5 win over the Rockies.
Eduardo Escobar of the Twins is AL Batter of the Day. Escobar homered and tripled, going 5-for-6, scoring three times and driving in two runs, in the 20-6 win over the Tigers.
Notable: Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta rose to 21st place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Friday. Arrieta (7IP R 5K W in the 4-1 win over the Orioles) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 11.7 for the season. He ranks eighth among NL pitchers.
