About Box-Toppers’ team abbreviations

Also Tuesday, two other players rise into Box-Toppers top 10 season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors—Red Sox pitcher Matt Barnes and Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer.

Player of the Day—Bieber struck out 11 over nine scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 2-0, 10-inning win over the White Sox.

Bieber earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, rising to second place among all players, trailing only Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow (4.0 points). Bieber led all players in 2020 with 11.4 points and won the 2020 American League Cy Young Award.

National League Player of the Day—Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks in the 7-0 win over the Rockies.

Bauer earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 for the season, rising to sixth among all players, second among NL pitchers behind Joe Musgrove of the Padres (3.0 points). Bauer led NL players in 2020 with 10.0 points when he was with the Reds and won the 2020 NL Cy Young Award.

Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers NL Player of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day—Adam Duvall of the Marlins hit two home runs—including a three-run shot—and doubled in the 14-8 win over the Braves. Duvall went 4-for-5, scoring four times and driving in seven runs.

Duvall recorded a Box-Toppers game score of +10.0, highest for a batter earning Player of the Game honors so far this season (but 19th among all Player of the Game winners). Duvall also recorded the highest Box-Toppers game score for a batter earning Player of the Game honors in 2020. He had a +13.0 game score on Sept. 9, 2020 (3HR 3-4 5R 9BI) when he was with the Braves in a win over his current team, the Marlins, 29-9. While that was the highest game score for a batter earning Player of the Game honors in 2020 (and perhaps the fifth-highest for a batter since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995), it was only the 21st-highest game score for Player of the Game in 2020—the 20 highest game scores were all recorded by pitchers.

Adam Duvall of the Marlins is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers NL Batter of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Charlie Culberson of the Rangers homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 8-3 win over the Rays.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
