Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day and rises to first place in season player rankings.
Also Wednesday, three other Box-Toppers Player of the Game winners rise into Box-Toppers’ season player rankings top 10 list—Twins pitcher Sonny Gray rises to seventh place, Max Muncy of the Dodgers rises to ninth place and Wander Franco of the Rays rises to 10th place.
Player of the Day—Gausman struck out 11 over eight innings, allowing three runs, five hits and no walks, in the 4-3, 10-inning win over the Tigers. Gausman did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Blue Jays were trailing when he exited.
Gausman earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.0 for the season, rising to first place in season player rankings, passing previous leader, Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen. Though Gausman and Rasmussen both have 4.0 Box-Toppers points in 2023, Gausman ranks higher because he earned more Box-Toppers points in 2022—12.7 vs. 11.1.
This is the second time this season Gausman has earned overall Box-Toppers Player of the Day honors. He also did it April 6.
National League Player of the Day—Diamondbacks pitcher Drey Jameson struck out four over four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, in the 7-3 win over the Brewers. Jameson did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because he did not pitch the required five innings to earn the win.
Jameson earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, his first points of the season and is 41st in season player rankings.
National League Batter of the Day—Max Muncy of the Dodgers hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, in the 10-5 win over the Giants. Muncy went 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in four runs.
Muncy earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, rising to ninth in season player rankings.
American League Batter of the Day—Wander Franco of the Rays hit three doubles and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 9-7 win over the Red Sox.
Franco earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, rising to 10th in season player rankings.
Rankings—In addition to Gausman, Muncy and Franco, Twins pitcher Sonny Gray also rises into Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.
Gray (5IP 3H 0R 2BB 5K W in the 3-1 win over the White Sox) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 3.0 for the season, rising to seventh place.
