Angels pitcher Griffin Canning is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Also Tuesday, Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi rises to seventh place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Canning struck out five over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks, in the 4-0 win over the Red Sox.

Canning earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 170th among all players, 51st among American League pitchers.

National League Player of the Day—Diamondbacks pitcher Ryne Nelson struck out four over six innings, allowing one run, three hits and no walks, in the 4-3 win over the Phillies. Nelson did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Phillies tied the game after he exited.

Nelson earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 for the season, 35th among NL pitchers.

Diamondbacks pitcher Ryne Nelson is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers National League Player of the Day.

American League Batter of the Day—Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays hit a grand slam and went 3-for-6, scoring once and driving in six runs, in the 20-1 win over the Rays.

Guerrero hit his grand slam off Luke Raley, normally a Rays outfielder or first baseman, who was making his second career pitching appearance and has a 30.38 earned run average. Earlier in the game, Raley struck out Guerrero, his only career strikeout as a pitcher.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers American League Batter of the Day.

National League Batter of the Day—Matt Mervis of the Cubs hit a three-run homer and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 7-2 win over the Mets.

This was Mervis’ Box-Toppers debut, his first career Player of the Game honor. He made his Major League debut May 5 and was playing in his 14th career game.

Mervis had a Box-Toppers game score Tuesday of +4.0, same as another NL batter earning Player of the Game honors, Tommy Edman of the Cardinals (3B 2B 2-3 2R 3BI in the 8-5 win over the Reds). But Mervis edged Edman for NL Batter of the Day honors because he homered in his game, while Edman’s biggest extra-base hit was a triple.

Matt Mervis of the Cubs is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers National League Batter of the Day.

Rankings—Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi rises to seventh place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

Eovaldi (CG 8H R BB 5K W in the 6-1 win over the Pirates) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 6.7 for the season. He ranks sixth among AL pitchers.
