Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal and Garrett Hampson of the Royals are Box-Toppers Player of the Game winners in Monday’s two American League Division Series playoff games.
Both AL Division Series are now even heading into Tuesday’s travel day before resuming Wednesday.
AL Division Series Game 2: Tigers 3, Guardians 0
Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal struck out eight over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks. Skubal did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was in a scoreless tie when he exited.
The Tigers tie the best-of-five game series with the Guardians, 1-1.
Skubal earned 21.1 Box-Toppers points in 2024, second among all players and first among AL pitchers. This was his second Box-Toppers Player of the Game honor of the 2024 postseason. He was also Box-Toppers Player of the Game Oct. 1 in the AL Wild Card Series.

Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
