Hudson would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day if this were a regular season game. Because it’s a preseason exhibition game, no Box-Toppers points are awarded.

Hudson has played in 18 regular season Major League games over 2018-20, but has yet to earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in any of them and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

Hudson had a Box-Toppers game score of +6.0 Friday, same as Dodgers pitcher Landon Knack, who was Player of the Game in the 4-1 win over the Padres (2IP 0H 0R 0BB 4K W). But in cases of game score ties, batters rank higher than pitchers, giving Hudson the edge to win Player of the Day honors.

American League Player of the Day

Matt Duffy of the Rangers went 1-for-2, scoring once and driving in one run, in the 5-4 win over the Royals.

Duffy would have earned 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day if this were a regular season game.

Duffy earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point in 2023 with the Royals. He’s earned 14.2 career points from 2015-23.

AL and NL Batters of the Day

There were no separate AL and NL Batters of the Day Friday since both league’s top batters were also their league’s overall Player of the Day.

Friday’s games

In Friday’s four spring training games featuring matchups between two Major League teams, only one had earned Player of the Game honors in the past (Matt Duffy). The remaining three Player of the Game winners—Hudson, Knack and Rockies pitcher Carson Palmquist—have yet to earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in a regular season game.

Scoring

No Box-Toppers points are awarded in exhibition games. Were it a regular season day, Hudson would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Duffy would have earned 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day. All of Friday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) would have earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
