Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to third place in season player rankings.

Also Saturday, two other players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earn Player of the Game honors: Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler rises to second place (and first among National League pitchers) and Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert rises to sixth place.

Player of the Day

Glasnow struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing two runs, two hits and no walks, in the 7-2 win over the Angels.

Glasnow earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.7 for the season, third overall, behind Yankees pitcher Luis Gil (13.4 points) and Wheeler (10.7). (Though Wheeler and Glasnow both have 10.7 points, Wheeler ranks ahead because he has more 2023 points—14.7 vs. 12.7.) Glasnow ranks second among NL pitchers behind Wheeler.

Glasnow becomes the fifth player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his third season and second straight season with 10 or more points. His best season was 2021 with the Rays when he earned 12.7 points, eighth among AL pitchers. Interestingly, Glasnow earned all his points in the first half of that season due to undergoing season-ending elbow surgery in June. Glasnow had 12.4 points in 2023 with the Rays, 14th among AL pitchers.

American League Player of the Day is Twins pitcher Bailey Ober.

Twins pitcher Bailey Ober pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing two runs, four hits and no walks, in the 10-2 win over the Athletics.

Ober earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 6.7 for the season, 15th among AL pitchers.

National League Batter of the Day is Alec Burleson of the Cardinals.

Alec Burleson of the Cardinals hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, in the 9-4 win over the Giants. Burleson went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in five runs.

Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler rises to lead NL pitchers in 2024 Box-Toppers points—rising to second overall—after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.

Wheeler (7IP 2H R 0BB 8K W in the 12-1 win over the Diamondbacks) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.7 for the season, trailing only Yankees pitcher Luis Gil (13.4 points). Wheeler rises to first place among NL pitchers, passing previous leader Chris Sale of the Braves (10.7 points), who had only taken the lead Friday.

Though Wheeler and three other NL pitchers have 10.7 points, Wheeler ranks highest among them because he has the most 2023 Box-Toppers points (14.7). Glasnow ranks second (12.4), followed by Sale (8.7) and Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga (0.0).

Wheeler becomes the sixth player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his fifth season with 10 or more points and his fourth straight. His best season was 2021 with the Phillies when he had 21.1 Box-Toppers points, third overall and second among NL pitchers. In 2023, Wheeler had 14.7 points with the Phillies, fifth among NL pitchers.
