Player of the Day

Skenes struck out 11 over seven hitless, scoreless innings, allowing one walk, in the 1-0 win over the Brewers.

Skenes was pulled after 99 pitches despite having a no-hitter intact and replaced with reliever Colin Holderman in the eighth inning, who gave up a single on his second pitch to Jake Bauers of the Brewers, breaking up the combined no-hitter effort.

Skenes earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 8.0 for the season, 32nd among all players and 15th among National League pitchers.

Skenes had a +17.0 Box-Toppers game score Thursday, the fourth-highest among all Player of the Game winners in 2024.

Phillies Aaron Nola now has 111.4 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday.

Notable

Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola now has 111.4 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Thursday.

Nola (6IP 4H R 2BB 9K W in the 5-1 win over the Dodgers) ranks 66th among all players in career points since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.0 point Thursday, he passes Tom Glavine (110.6) on the “all-time” career points list. (It should be noted that Glavine began his career before the advent of Box-Toppers tracking in 1995. Box-Toppers projects he would have about 170 points if his career from 1987 were tracked.) Nola now trails 65th-ranked player Kevin Brown (112.8).

Nola ranks 10th among active players in career Box-Toppers points, fifth among active NL pitchers.

Nola now has 9.7 Box-Toppers points in 2024, 13th among all players and sixth among NL pitchers.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
