Also Saturday, Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers rises to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. Plus, Rays pitcher Charlie Morton and Astros pitcher Brad Peacock rise into Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 after earning Player of the Game honors.

Player of the Day—Corbin pitched a complete-game, four-hit, shutout, striking out five and walking one, in the 5-0 win over the Marlins.

Corbin earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season. He ranks 20th among all players and ninth among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Rays pitcher Charlie Morton struck out 10 over six innings, allowing one run, three hits and two walks, in the 6-2 win over the Indians.

Morton earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 7.1 for the season, rising to eighth place in season player rankings, third among AL pitchers, behind Justin Verlander of the Astros (12.1) and Shane Bieber of the Indians (7.7).

Morton had a Box-Toppers game score Saturday of +9.0, the same as two other Player of the Game winners. However, Corbin beat Morton out for overall Player of the Day on a tiebreaker because he had more innings pitched (nine vs. six). Astros pitcher Brad Peacock, Player of the Game in the 4-3 win over the Red Sox, also had a Box-Toppers game score of +9.0 (6IP 4H 0R BB 8K ND), but Morton beat him on a tiebreaker because he had more strikeouts (10 vs. eight).

So, though all three had the same Box-Toppers game score of +9.0, they all received different Box-Toppers points: Corbin received 2.0 as Player of the Day, Morton received 1.7 as AL Player of the Day and Peacock received 1.0 as Player of the Game.

National League Batter of the Day—Wil Myers of the Padres hit two home runs and went 2-for-2, scoring four times and driving in four runs, in the 19-4 win over the Blue Jays.

American League Batter of the Day—Jonathan Villar of the Orioles hit a three-run homer and doubled in the 9-6 win over the Rockies. Villar went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in three runs.

Rankings—Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers rises from seventh to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.

Bellinger ranks second among NL players, behind Brewers closing pitcher Josh Hader (10.0 points, ranked second overall). He extends his lead among NL batters, ahead of second-place Marcell Ozuna of the Cardinals (7.0 points).

Notable—Astros pitcher Brad Peacock rises to 10th place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.

Jones (2B 2-2 R BI in the 10-4 win over the Giants) was also NL Batter of the Day Friday in the 18-2 win over the Giants (HR 4-5 3R 3BI). Jones has 2.5 Box-Toppers points in 2019, all earned in the past two days.

Scoring—Corbin earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Morton earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day. Myers and Villar each earn 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day. All of Saturday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
