Also Tuesday, Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff rises to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings and J.D. Martinez of the Red Sox rises to lead American League batters in season player rankings. Both were among Tuesday’s 14 Player of the Game winners.

Player of the Day—Marquez pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout, striking out five and allowing one walk, in the 8-0 win over the Pirates.

Marquez gave up his only hit with none out in the ninth inning.

Marquez earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.0 for the season, eighth among all players and sixth among National League pitchers.

Marquez becomes the eighth player this season to reach 10 Box-Toppers points. It is his second season with 10 or more points. In 2018, he had 14.7 points with the Rockies, sixth among NL pitchers.

American League Player of the Day—Marcus Semien of the Blue Jays hit a three-run homer, doubled and went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 9-3 win over the Mariners.

Top 10 rankings—Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff rises from fourth to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

Woodruff (6IP 4H R 3BB 8K W in the 2-1 win over the Cubs) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 13.4 for the season. He ranks second among NL pitchers, behind Jacob deGrom of the Mets (14.7).

Notable—J.D. Martinez of the Red Sox regains the 2021 Box-Toppers points lead among AL batters after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.

Martinez (2B 2-2 R 4BI in the 7-6 win over the Royals) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 7.2 for the season, 23rd among all players and rising to first among AL batters, passing previous leader Xander Bogaerts of the Red Sox (6.5). Martinez led AL batters in Box-Toppers points from April to early June before he was passed by Bogaerts.

Martinez also now has the most 2021 Box-Toppers points among all batters, passing Nick Castellanos of the Reds (7.0), who only rose to first among all batters Monday.
