Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Sunday, Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings—first among National League pitchers—after earning Player of the Game honors.
Player of the Day—Gallen struck out seven over seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and no walks, in the 4-0 win over the Rockies.
Gallen earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 34th among all players and 16th among NL pitchers.
American League Player of the Day—Mariners pitcher George Kirby struck out seven over six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 2-1, 10-inning win over the Rays.
This was Kirby’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. It was also his Major League debut.

Musgrove (7IP 5H 2R BB 8K ND in the 3-2 win over the Marlins) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 6.0 for the season. He trails only Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (7.0) and rises to first place among NL pitchers, passing Max Fried of the Braves, who only took the lead Saturday. Though both Musgrove and Fried have 6.0 Box-Toppers points, Musgrove ranks ahead because he had more 2021 Box-Toppers points—16.1 vs. 11.8.
Notable—Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole now has 126.6 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.
