Reds pitcher Carson Spiers is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Spiers struck out four over five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 7- 1 win over the Cubs.

Spiers earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 241st among all players and 79th among National League pitchers.

American League Player of the Day

Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals hit a grand slam, doubled and went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 8-5 win over the White Sox.

Witt earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 7.4 for the season, 49th among all players and third among AL batters, behind Aaron Judge of the Yankess (10.0) and Juan Soto of the Yankees (9.5). (Soto also earned Player of the Game honors Monday.)

American League Player of the Day is Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals.

National League Batter of the Day

Willy Adames of the Brewers hit a three-run home run and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 8-3 win over the Braves.

Adames earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 5.5 for the season, eighth among NL batters.

National League Batter of the Day is Willy Adames of the Brewers.

American League Batter of the Day

There is no separate AL Batter of the Day for Monday because the overall AL Player of the Day is batter Bobby Witt Jr. In Monday’s 12 completed games, batters won Player of the Game honors in 11, while pitchers won in one (Carson Spiers of the Reds). That is an oddity this season in which pitchers have won the overwhelming majority of Player of the Game honors, 63.6 percent of all games as of July 25.

Juan Soto of the Yankees has the most 2024 Box-Toppers points among Monday’s Player of the Game winners.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
