Royals pitcher Cole Ragans is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Thursday’s spring training games.

Other Player of the Game winners Thursday include Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, Bo Naylor of the Guardians and Matt Chapman of the Giants.

Player of the Day

Ragans struck out six over three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 9-3 win over the Cubs.

Ragans had a Box-Toppers game score of +8.0, best among all Royals players and highest among all Thursday Player of the Game winners.

Ragans earned 12.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024, 16th among American League pitchers and most among Thursday’s Player of the Game winners.

If this were a regular season game, Ragans would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day (1.0 point as Player of the Game and 1.0 bonus point as overall Player of the Day). However, no Box-Toppers points are awarded because it’s a preseason exhibition game.

National League Player of the Day

Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski struck out three over three scoreless and hitless innings, allowing no walks, in the 10-0 win over the Athletics.

Misiorowski has pitched three minor league seasons but has yet to make his Major League debut and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

If this were a regular season game, Misiorowski would have earned 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day (1.0 point as Player of the Game and 0.7 bonus points as NL Player of the Day).

American League Batter of the Day is Bo Naylor of the Guardians.

American League Batter of the Day

Bo Naylor of the Guardians hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, in the 4-0 win over the Diamondbacks. Naylor went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in four runs.

Naylor earned 3.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024.

National League Batter of the Day is Matt Chapman of the Giants.

National League Batter of the Day

Matt Chapman of the Giants hit two home runs and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 7-3 win over the White Sox.

Chapman earned 10.2 Box-Toppers points in 2024, fourth among NL batters.

Thursday’s games

In Thursday’s 15 completed spring training games, there were eight Player of the Game winners who had previously earned Box-Toppers points in regular season games. In five of Thursday’s games, the Player of the Game winner was a player who has yet to earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in the regular season and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

Two games ended in a tie (Marlins vs. Braves and Angels vs. Mariners). No Player of the Game honors are awarded in tie games.

Scoring

No Box-Toppers points are awarded in exhibition games. Were it a regular season day:

  • Ragans would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day.

  • Misiorowski would have earned 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day.

  • Naylor and Chapman would have each earned 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day.

  • All of Thursday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) would have earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
