Trevor Story of the Red Sox is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Friday’s spring training games.

Other Player of the Game winners Friday include Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski, Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals and Iván Herrera of the Cardinals.

Player of the Day

Story hit two home runs and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 20-5 win over the Marlins.

Story had a Box-Toppers game score of +5.0, best among all Red Sox players and highest among all Friday Player of the Game winners.

Story earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point in 2024 playing in just 26 games, his time limited after April shoulder surgery. He had 0.0 points in 2023 playing in 43 games, missing significant time recovering from elbow surgery. Story has 37.7 career Box-Toppers points from 2016 to 2024, second among active AL shortstops behind Carlos Correa of the Twins (40.4).

If this were a regular season game, Story would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day (1.0 point as Player of the Game and 1.0 bonus point as overall Player of the Day). However, no Box-Toppers points are awarded because it’s a preseason exhibition game.

National League Player of the Day is Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski.

National League Player of the Day

Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski struck out five over 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, in the 6-4 win over the Mariners.

Wrobleski earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024 in eight games in his first season and his rookie status is still intact for 2025. This is the second time this spring Wrobleski has earned Player of the Game honors. He also did it Sunday in the 8-4 win over the Athletics (3IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K W).

If this were a regular season game, Wrobleski would have earned 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day (1.0 point as Player of the Game and 0.7 bonus points as NL Player of the Day).

National League Batter of the Day is Iván Herrera of the Cardinals.

National League Batter of the Day

Herrera earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024.

Scoring

No Box-Toppers points are awarded in exhibition games. Were it a regular season day:

  • Wrobleski would have earned 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day.

  • Herrera would have earned 1.5 points for being NL Batter of the Day.

  • All of Friday’s other Player of the Game winners (listed in the chart) would have earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
