Orioles pitcher Kyle Bradish is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Sunday, Braves pitcher Chris Sale regains the lead in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.
Player of the Day
Bradish struck out 11 over seven scoreless, hitless innings, allowing four walks, in the 4-1 win over the White Sox.
Orioles reliever Danny Coulombe gave up the game’s first hit to the first batter he faced after replacing Bradish in the eighth inning, breaking up the no-hitter. Coulombe gave up a home run to Danny Mendick of the White Sox.
Bradish earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 3.0 for the season, 74th among all players and 36th among American League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day
Cardinals pitcher Sonny Gray struck out eight over five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks, in the 4-3 win over the Cubs.
Gray earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 5.7 for the season, 19th among all players and 11th among NL pitchers.
Gray also now has 103.6 career Box-Toppers points, 81st among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.7 points Sunday, he passes two players on the “all-time” career points list—Ken Griffey Jr. (102.2) and Miguel Tejada (102.3). He now trails 80th-ranked player Jamie Moyer (104.0).
Gray ranks 13th among active, signed players in career points, seventh among active NL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day
Matt Vierling of the Tigers hit two home runs, including a ninth-inning, walk-off, three-run shot, in the 14-11 win over the Blue Jays. Vierling went 4-for-6, scoring three times and driving in four runs.
National League Batter of the Day
There is no NL Batter of the Day for Sunday because no NL batter earned Player of the Game honors in the 15 games completed.

Rankings
Braves pitcher Chris Sale rises from third to first place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday.
Sale (7IP 4H R BB 8K W in the 8-1 win over the Pirates) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 9.7 for the season. He passes the previous leader, Yankees pitcher Luis Gil (9.7). Though Sale and Gil both have 9.7 points in 2024, Sale ranks higher because he has more 2023 points—8.7 vs. 0.0.
Sale also rises to first among NL pitchers, passing the previous leader, Ranger Suarez of the Phillies (9.4).
Sale regains the Box-Toppers season player rankings lead he held for one day, May 20.
Sale now has 163.0 career Box-Toppers points, 18th among all players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. He trails 17th-ranked player Roger Clemens (164.8). (It should be noted that Clemens began his career before the advent of Box-Toppers in 1995. Box-Toppers projects he would have about 320 points if his entire career from 1984 were tracked.)
Sale ranks fourth among active, signed players in career points, and second among active NL pitchers, behind Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers (270.4).

About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
